Product Description

Cast Viper Boosters are a molecular explosive composition of RDX and TNT enclosed in a high visibility cylindrical shell. A PETN capsule is positioned internally near the detonator well to ensure reliable initiation when using 3.6 g/m (18 grain/ft) detonating cord or stronger. As a primer assembly Viper Boosters develop high detonation pressure and high detonation velocity to initiate primary explosive loads.

Viper Boosters

Application

Viper Boosters are designed to be used in conjunction with a high strength initiator to make up primer assemblies. Primers made with Viper Boosters are widely used to initiate non-detonator sensitive bulk and packaged explosives and blasting agents. Viper Boosters provide reliable initiation for blasting in surface mines, underground mines, quarries, and civil construction.

Primary Benefits

Reliable initiation of primary explosive loads by primers made with standard high strength electronic and non-electric detonators.

Reliable initiation of primary explosive loads by primers made with 3.6 g/m (18 grain/foot) detonating cord or stronger.

Viper Boosters are smooth and clean with both ends covered. This minimizes high explosive dust in the cases and exposure of personnel to high explosive dust.

Consistent smooth and straight detonator well and detonating cord tunnel with no distortion or blockage. This minimizes the risk of personnel forcing initiation devices into the booster during primer assembly.

Guidelines for Use

Use with Detonating Cord

Always consult with a BME Technical Representative for guidance before using a detonating cord as an initiator for this product.

Ground Temperature

This product may be used in ground temperatures to a maximum of 70°C. If the application requires use outside of this temperature range please contact a BME Technical Representative for additional guidance.

Reactive Ground

Reactive ground is typically characterised by the presence of sulphide mineralization. If the application requires use in known reactive ground, or in untested sulphide bearing ground, please contact a BME Technical Representative for additional guidance.

Sleep Time

The recommended maximum sleep time is 21 days. Sleep time is dependent on factors such as hole diameter, density, ground water conditions and initiation system. If the application requires longer in-hole sleep time, please consult with a BME Technical Representative for guidance.

Handling and Storage

Viper Boosters must be handled and stored with care. Viper Boosters are made with molecular high explosives that can be initiated by intense friction, impact, static (lightning), or heat.

All explosives must be transported and stored in accordance with relevant regulations.

Store Viper Boosters in a dry and well ventilated magazine.
